Life + Forbiosensing at the 13th National Conference of Photointerpretation and Remote Sensing

On September 24-25, 2018, at the headquarters of the Faculty of Geographical Sciences of the University of Lodz, the 13th National Conference of Photointerpretation and Remote Sensing took place. This conference, in connection with the year of the Jubilee of the 100th anniversary of Polish Geography, was specifically devoted to remote sensing in geographic sciences.

Participants of the event had the opportunity to learn about the LIFE + ForBioSensing project. Our representatives have brought closer to its goals, tasks, methods of data collection and the results obtained so far in the project. Dr hab. Krzysztof Stereńczak presented the results of his work in two papers: "The use of laser flight data in determining the characteristics of forest stands" and "Project Life + ForBioSensing - remote sensing in monitoring the state of forest stands of the Białowieża Forest".

Our colleagues - Aneta Modzelewska and Bartłomiej Kraszewski during the event conducted workshops: "Terrestrial hyperspectral measurements" and "Data processing from aerial laser scanning in the R environment". During the workshops, you could learn the methods of working with an advanced research tool used to assess the condition of the forest - a hyperspectral spectrometer. The device, by measuring the reflected radiation, allows to determine, among others water content or chlorophyll concentration in the leaf, which allows you to evaluate the current condition of the plant. Examples of analysis of obtained hyperspectral data using the R language were presented. Participants also had the opportunity to get acquainted with the R environment in processing data obtained from aerial laser scanning, another modern tool used in the project, allowing for a large forest area to gather quickly and without interference in the ecosystem precise data on many features of trees and stands.

For our team it was an excellent opportunity to disseminate the practical knowledge in the field of remote sensing gained under the project. All presentations were received with warm reception from listeners.
