ForBioSensing supports renaturalization activities in the Białowieża Forest

The RE-NATURA conference, dedicated to wetland restoration, water retention, and the restoration of forest and river ecosystems, took place in Białowieża from May 25th to 27th, 2026. The projects presented and implemented during the conference utilize modern spatial data and terrain analyses collected and developed, among others, as part of the ForBioSensing project.

The conference program also included field sessions and workshops on practical restoration activities. Participants could see the effects of restoration in the Narewka Valley, modern methods for monitoring wetlands and rivers, and field studies of peat and organic sediments. The workshops also included activities conducted in the Browsk Forest District, where small dams were constructed in a seasonal stream to improve water retention in the forest.

The use of FBS data demonstrates that modern remote sensing technologies and precise terrain models are becoming key tools supporting the protection and restoration of aquatic ecosystems.
