Completion of the LIFE+ ForBioSensing project
We would like to inform you that on April 29, 2022, the implementation of the project entitled "Comprehensive monitoring of stand dynamics in Białowieża Forest supported with remote sensing techniques" co-financed by the European Commission under the LIFE+ financial instrument and by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
The aim of the project was to develop and apply a method of monitoring a large forest facility using innovative techniques and data. Thanks to the use of the latest techniques of forest ecosystem analysis, it was possible to obtain a unique set of spatial and stand data for the Białowieża Forest.
The project shows that the combination of remote sensing and photogrammetric data with ground measurements offers the possibility of a comprehensive approach to the dynamics of stands (or homogeneous forest fragments) of naturally valuable forest objects. Recognition of the changes in the structure and species composition occurring in the forests of the Białowieża Primeval Forest allowed for the identification of factors conditioning these processes, their dynamics and the implementation of appropriate protective measures in practical activities. We are pleased to inform you that the goal of the project has been achieved.
Therefore, we would like to thank all participants of the project for their joint time and new experiences. We are pleased that the project was met with such great interest - thanks to a wide range of promotional activities and techniques (interesting messages, appropriate selection of information to recipients, selection of promotion products, reports with interesting graphic and photographic material), and above all thanks to the conscientious work of the team project, we have reached nearly 5 million documented recipients.
Obviously, the project would not have been implemented effectively if it were not for the activities of the Steering Committee, which we would like to thank for the support in the implementation of project tasks and informing about the current needs, which enabled the delivery of products that were used in the daily work of many project stakeholders.
The summary of the 7-year activity of LIFE + ForBioSensing is a scientific monograph. This publication covers both previously unpublished material and the implementation of measures, in the area of the Polish part of the Białowieża Forest, of remote sensing data analysis methods, which have already been widely presented in numerous scientific publications. In this news, we are putting the material in your hands.
The image of the Polish part of the Białowieża Forest will be preserved and archived in the data, information and knowledge obtained and created as a result of the project. We hope that their future users will appreciate the quality and effort of the entire ForBioSensing team and that the results of the project will help in further learning about the processes taking place in the Polish part of the Białowieża Forest, now and in the future.
