ForBioSenisng, admiring biodiversity: snowdrop a harbinger of spring

March is the time of first green plants emergence and the awakening of juices in perennial plants. Another moment and… the gray-brown fleece will start to turn green. The first plants force their way through the dry leaves.

Our specialist in habitat studies encountered the symbol of early spring - snowdrops. Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis L.) is known by many names, e.g. common snowdrop, common snowdrop, common smoothie, smoothie, snowstorm. The Polish name comes from the flowering date - the flowers of this plant appear very early - they often "break through" the snow. It is worth remembering that in Poland this plant is a protected species and all its parts contain poisonous substances.

We encourage you to look for even the smallest manifestations of spring.
