ForBioSensing, admiring biodiversity: hydrological drought in the Białowieża Forest

Persistent drought increases the risk of fires. In most Polish forest districts we deal with a 3-degree fire hazard. Special care is needed when walking in the woods.

We ask for responsible behavior and we urge you - do not ignite the fire! In the forest we are dealing with hydrological drought, and the lack of precipitation increases the risk of fire. Man is responsible for many of the fires. Flames destroy nature, including the lively one - including bird nests. It should be remembered that after winter the forest litter and grasses are dried and burn very quickly.

In the face of drought, as a team that has been working in the forest for many years, we remind you of several rules of proper behavior in the forest:

• Do not use an open flame in any form in the forest,
• If you see a fire - give an alarm: tel. 998 or 112,
• Read forest boards - they inform about threats, sometimes show that this part of the forest is unavailable,

and also - keep calm.
