The latest scientific article from the ForBioSensing team

For a good start in 2020, we recommend reading the latest scientific article by the ForBioSensing team, published in the Forest Ecology and Management journal, "Influence of selected habitat and stand factors on bark beetle Ips typographus (L.) outbreak in the Białowieża Forest". The bark beetle printer is perceived as one of the most important insects damaging European forests. In recent years, printer bark beetle outbreaks have affected forest ecosystems on a very large spatial scale, causing huge economic losses. The article presents in detail the development of a new approach for identifying and mapping individual trees attacked by bark beetles for more efficient management of gradation areas. The study was conducted in the Białowieża Forest (area of 62,000 ha), using airborne laser scanning data, multispectral aerial photographs and a forest numerical map.
