IV meeting of the LIFE + Project Steering Committee ForBioSensing PL

As part of the project activities conducted by the LIFE + ForBioSensing project, on June 14, at the headquarters of the IBL in Sękocin Stary, a meeting was held with project stakeholders - the 4th meeting of the Steering Committee.

Invited guests had the opportunity to watch the latest promotional film in the project Fri "Life of the tree" (note: https://bit.ly/2Xec72h), familiarize with the scope of work carried out within the framework of the LIFE + project and the first results of the work, obtained thanks to data obtained as a result of field work and remote methods. The Project Manager, after welcoming the Stakeholders, emphasized the importance of the project's operation and operation in the Polish area of ​​the Białowieża Primeval Forest.

The meeting was attended by: Deputy General Director for Forest Management - Mr. Bogusław Piątek, Deputy Director for Forest Management - Mr. Zenon Angielczyk, Head of the Forest Management Department at GDLP - Mr. Jacek Przypaśniak, Head of the Nature Conservation Team in the Białowieża National Park - Mr. Wiesław Klimiuk, Senior Inspector of Supervision and Inspection from the Office of Forest Management and Forest Surveying (branch in Białystok) - Mr. Janusz Porowski, Head of the Studio of Production Technology and Study in the Forestry and Forestry Surveying Office - Mr. Artur Michorczyk, Inspector of Forest Management from the Office of Forest and Forest Geodesy - Mr. Radosław Sroga, Editor of the biweekly "Las Polski" - Mr. Jakub Słowik and Editor of the magazine "Głos Lasu" - Mr. Tomasz Esman. The meeting was also attended by the employees of the LIFE + ForBioSensing project.

The following issues were discussed at the meeting:

  • The genesis of the project, objectives, methods of monitoring the Białowieża Forest - dr hab. Krzysztof Stereńczak, Project Manager;
  • Current state of forest stands of the Białowieża Primeval Forest based on data obtained from field monitoring areas - Łukasz Kuberski, Field employee;
  • Products of remote sensing data: laser scanning (from above-ground and air level), modern technologies used during monitoring of forest stands - dr inż. Bartłomiej Kraszewski, Programmer in the project;
  • Status of project indicators, dissemination of information about the project and use of data by stakeholders - dr inż. Damian Korzybski, Deputy Project Manager;
  • Dendrochronological work: tree growth rate, stand history, history of management in the Forest by man (traces of fires preserved in wood grains) - dr inż. Ewa Zin, Specialist in dendrochronological research.
  • The meeting was crowned with the presentation of the Project Manager - dr hab. Krzysztof Stereńczak, who summarized the meeting and discussed ways to monitor forest areas using remote sensing data.

The meeting ended with a discussion on the methods of obtaining data in the Białowieża Primeval Forest. The next meeting of the Steering Committee will take place next year.
