ForBioSensing at the Winter Forest School 2019

On March 12-15 this year. at the headquarters of the Forest Research Institute of Sękocin Stary an important annual event - "Winter Forest School" took place. In one place, jointly: foresters, scientists, government administration, company representatives, naturalists and interested persons can get acquainted with and broaden their knowledge about the latest achievements of the selected field of forestry.

This year's theme of the meeting was "Application of geoinformatics in forestry". The event organized by the Forest Research Institute and the General Directorate of State Forests gathered over 400 people. And we as the ForBioSensing team had the opportunity to promote the project. On the first day of the conference, the presentation of our project took place. Everyone present could learn about many aspects of our activity. Project Manager - dr hab. Krzysztof Stereńczak, presented the most important project assumptions and presented the most recent and one of the most important results regarding the Białowieża Forest monitoring, including: maps showing the spatial dynamics of the bark beetle gradation, spatial distribution of gaps in the Forest, a map showing the spatial distribution of tree stands and their abundance, developed on based on remote sensing data and many more. He also presented the team's design plans for the coming months.

On the second day, we set up our promotional stand to inform the participants of the Conference - how and why we monitor the Bialowieza Forest and what methods of observation of tree stands we use. We have presented guests with the terrestrial measuring devices we use, such as: a laser scanner, a spectrometer, a dendrometer, thanks to which the monitoring of forest stands takes place on an unknown and immeasurable scale. We also enjoyed our post-conference publication, which spread to one piece. This is proof that our activities are needed and interesting.

We would like to thank the organizers for the opportunity to present and familiarize the recipients with our activities. See you next year!
