ForBioSensing, our activities in the Bialowieza Forest: Measurements of spruce surfaces

ForBioSensing team entered into diligently in September - analyzing the "spruce in the Forest" surfaces. For monitoring tree stands (including those where the spruce is the main species) in the Białowieża Primeval Forest, it uses a variety of equipment, including: surveying GPS, compass, rangefinders and ultrasonic altimeters, as well as diameters and steel belts.

Thanks to the involvement and experience of specialists and the use of advanced equipment, measurements are made with high accuracy for the entire Polish part of the Forest. The meticulousness of gathering information will help determine, among other things, in what condition stands on monitoring areas (and translate this information into the entire Forest), provide valuable information on the phenomenon of natural regeneration occurring in stands, including in the case of Norway spruce.

In the gallery we present pictures taken by our specialists during measurements of "spruce" surfaces. In one of the photos we can observe quite a frequent phenomenon. The picture shows the cut - a tree uprooted with roots, and on it seedlings of trees. The dizziness itself or holes in the forest cover after them, with the exposed mineral soil, become a very desirable place for the renewing new generation of trees. On the one hand, young trees have easy access to the soil and nutrients accumulated in it, as well as water accumulating in the cavity, and on the other hand, the excision itself protects them mechanically against physical damage or biting by the game.

"In nature, nothing is lost" - says one of the Polish sayings.
